Steve Bruce has cast doubt over Allan Saint-Maximin starting for Newcastle United tonight through his comments to the Chronicle.

Newcastle are due to take on Bournemouth later this evening, as Bruce’s side look to return to winning ways.

Newcastle’s chances of getting the three points will be boosted if their most dangerous attacker, Saint-Maximin, is fit.

However, it seems that the Magpies may have to do without the Frenchman, unless he feels fresher today.

“The lockdown has done him [ASM] good with those niggling hamstrings he had which was always a concern when you rely on your pace like he does,” Bruce said.

“He was extremely tired yesterday. Four games in 11 days, I’m going to use the squad so we’ll see how he is this afternoon.”

Bruce has not rotated much since Newcastle’s return to action, with Saint-Maximin starting in every game so far.

The winger is forced to get through plenty of running, as Newcastle often rely on his dribbling ability to unlock defences.

If Bruce’s side are able to win this evening they could move up to 12th place in the Premier League standings.
