Joe Rodon’s brother has seemingly dismissed the rumours that Newcastle United want to sign the Tottenham defender.
Sam Rodon posted on Twitter ‘doesn’t even know him’, as he was reacting to a transfer rumour that Newcastle are ‘leading the race’ for the player’s signature, as reported by the Telegraph.
It has also been suggested that Spurs will entertain offers to sell Rodon next month, as reported by 90min.
On Wednesday night, Rodon was once again an unused substitute as Antonio Conte’s men booked their place in the semi-finals of the League Cup at West Ham’s expense.
The Wales international has only played 54 minutes under his new boss and that came during their humiliating 2-1 defeat to NS Mura in the Europa Conference League.
The signs are clear that Rodon could be heading for the exit door when the transfer window re-opens.
Regardless of the comments from Rodon’s brother, there is no reason why Eddie Howe shouldn’t be pouncing at the chance to bring his talents to the club.
The biggest problem facing West Ham right now is, not only their inability to defend, but their complete and utter incompetence to just do the pure basics.
That was evident during their heavy defeat against Manchester City when Ciaran Clark just allowed a ball into the danger area to fall onto Rodri’s head, rather than actually clearing away from danger.
The signs were clear under Steve Bruce that this Newcastle defence is a mess and bringing Rodon to the club would be an interesting move.
It needs to be remembered that he would be moving to St James’ Park with a point to prove and that hungry-type behaviour is needed.
