A potential nightmare could become reality for Aston Villa fans as Douglas Luiz’s brother has responded on Twitter to his sibling being linked with a return to Manchester City.
Globo Esporte have reported that Manchester City will be looking to exercise the release clause in Luiz’s contract and the Villa man could be heading back to Manchester for £25 million.
This would be a body blow for Villa and Dean Smith because the defensive-minded midfielder was their best player after the restart.
Whilst Luiz’s brother didn’t give too much away on Twitter, he did state ‘God bless you brother’ when responding to the above report.
This has understandably sent the Villa Park faithful into meltdown and has got them worried that they may lose such a key figure, but there could be some relief.
Reliable Midlands journalist, John Percy, posted on Twitter that City haven’t activated the buy-back clause in Luiz’s contract and the Villa man is set to be offered a new contract instead.
If that does take place then it would be brilliant news for Villa, who need to ensure they keep their best players for the new season.
Whilst it took Luiz a while to settle in at Villa Park, he did step up and add consistency to his game during the crucial end of the campaign and even out-performed star man, Jack Grealish.
