Reports in the Democratic Republic of Congo are suggesting that Britt Assombalonga has decided to represent the country at international level.

It was reported earlier in the month by Agence D’Information D’Afrique Centrale that DR Congo had called up the Forest striker to their 37-man shortlist for the nation’s final Afcon qualifier against the Central African Republic – a game which if they avoid defeat will see them through to the finals in Gabon next January-February.
Now it seems he has been retained on the list after the latest cuts – suggesting he is indeed heading to Kinshasa next week.

The Nottingham Forest star, who has been linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks, is the son of former Zaire international Fedor Assombalonga and was born in the African country.
The report also states that Assombalonga will be joined in the selection by Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe – after his allegiance switch was finally approved.

The news will concern Forest fans. Assombalonga could be absent for at least six games should he head to Gabon in the New Year and DR Congo perform well.
Time will tell if the Forest striker has indeed accepted the latest invitation, as he rejected similar overtures two years ago.
