Liverpool secured a thumping 5-1 win in the UEFA Champions League this week, and it was another impressive display from James Milner.

The 35-year-old utility man filled in for the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back. And once again, Milner stepped up for the occasion as the midfielder had a Champions League performance to remember.

The former Manchester City star assisted Sadio Mane for the second goal of the evening as Milner starred at fullback for the Reds. And in doing so, the Liverpool number 7 achieved a surprising feat.

As per journalist Richard Jolly on Twitter, since competing in. the Champions League for the Reds, Milner has had more assists (13) than both Cristiano Ronaldo (5) and Lionel Messi (10).

Indeed, Milner has been a key member of the Liverpool squad that made the Champions League final in 2018 and then won the competition a year later.

With the midfielder playing a variety of positions and Liverpool being one of the highest-scoring teams in the competition under Jurgen Klopp, it perhaps isn’t too much of a surprise to see Milner have such an impressive assist record.
