Blackpool’s Sam Slocombe saves from Bolton Wanderers’ Alex Finney
Bristol Rovers are poised to sign former Blackpool goalkeeper Sam Slocombe on a free transfer, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Slocombe is available on a free transfer after surprisingly being released by Blackpool at the end of last season, despite playing a key role in their successful promotion from League Two.
The 28-year-old, who signed a one-year deal at Bloomfield Road last summer, was instrumental in Blackpool’s promotion, keeping 15 clean sheets in 46 appearances as Gary Bowyer’s men won the League Two play-offs.
Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke
Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke has made goalkeeping reinforcements one of his top priorities this summer after the end of Joe Lumley’s loan spell from Queens Park Rangers and the departures of Steve Mildenhall, Will Puddy and Kieran Hodges.
Clarke has identified Slocombe as a top target and he has agreed a deal for the former Scunthorpe United shot-stopper after holding talks with him earlier this month.
Rovers are still looking to bring in another goalkeeper who is likely to be act as cover to Slocombe with the former Oxford keeper expected to be No.1 keeper in Clarke’s plans.
