Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United are still just two points off the top of the Championship after Patrick Bamford’s goal secured a 1-0 win at Bristol City.

Patrick Bamford of Leeds United scores his sides first goal during the Sky Bet Championship between Bristol City and Leeds United at Ashton Gate on March 09, 2019 in Bristol, England.

Bristol City ace Thomas Kalas has admitted that his side simply couldn’t open up Leeds United’s impressive defence during their 1-0 defeat on Saturday, speaking to the club’s official website.

Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites followed up their impressive 4-0 thrashing of West Bromwich Albion with another valuable victory against a promotion rival this weekend.

They were far from their best at Ashton Gate but a close-range tap in from Patrick Bamford in the first-half was enough to seal a 1-0 win away at one of the Championship’s most in-form sides.

While Bamford was the hero, scoring for the fourth time in four league games, Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper were arguably the best players on the pitch as they produced a sterling defensive effort to keep Bristol City off the scoresheet.

And Kalas, a central defender himself, has paid tribute to Leeds’ impressive performance at the back.

“It was difficult against their defence, who played well,” said the Chelsea loanee.

“Maybe they weren’t as great as they were against West Brom previously but defensively it wasn’t a bad game. Offensively, and that starts from the back but I’m not blaming anyone, we just didn’t create enough chances.”

Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Bristol City themselves are the only three Championship teams who have conceded fewer goals than Leeds this season with Bielsa’s side just two points off the top with 10 games remaining.
