Robins winger Paterson could feature at Hillsborough, four years since his last visit with Walsall.

Bristol City winger Jamie Paterson has admitted he loves playing at Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough Stadium – despite only playing there once as a professional.

The August arrival from Nottingham Forest could make his first Robins start against Wednesday on Tuesday, and told the Bristol Post: “I’ve always done well in games at Hillsborough.

“I’ve scored a couple of goals there down the years and I’ve also been on the winning team. I’ve done well there for Nottingham Forest and for Huddersfield.

“It’s one of my favourite grounds. Wednesday are a big club with a famous tradition, Hillsborough is one of those fantastic old stadiums with a history and the atmosphere is always really good there. I love playing there!”

Paterson’s memory, though, seems a little hazy. Only once has he played a senior competitive fixture at the home of the Owls – and that was in March 2012.

The winger was on the scoresheet that day, helping Walsall to a 2-2- draw, however his only other goal against the South Yorkshire side came during a 3-3 draw at the City Ground in 2014.

Though Paterson did travel with Forest for their 1-0 win at Sheffield 6 in the December of the following year, he never actually made it on to the pitch.

And that’s as close as the 24-year-old has come in the meantime, having been left out of Forest and Huddersfield squads in 2014 (0-1) and 2015 (3-1), respectively.

Wednesday will leapfrog ninth-placed City with a win on Tuesday, having claimed only their second league success of the campaign against Wigan Athletic at the weekend.

A win for the Robins, meanwhile, could see Lee Johnson’s side climb to second.
