Everton made an approach for Bristol City talisman Bobby Reid in the summer and the 24-year-old could come in handy at Goodison Park.
Bobby Reid’s goal in Bristol City’s 2-1 win away at Sunderland this weekend was so typically Bobby Reid. Finding a pocket of space inside a crowded penalty area, the goal-poaching 24-year-old nodded home from close range to leave the Black Cats defence wondering how they didn’t notice him.
It is not the first time Reid has come alive inside the 18-yard box to snaffle one of those ‘goalscorer’s goals’ this season. In 14 games, the Bristol-born midfielder has hit the back of the net eight times in the Championship – making 2017/18 comfortably the most prolific season of his career to date.
With almost every week that goes by, Reid continues to justify reported Premier League interest in his services. The Liverpool Echo reported in late August that he had caught the eye of top flight duo Everton and Leicester City.
And with The Toffees looking toothless in attack, tallying just seven goals in 10 Premier League games and failing to find the net again in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Leicester City, they could do worse than to renew their interest in Reid this summer.
Though not a natural striker, the 5ft 7ins attacker is adept at finding those pockets of space in which to wreak havoc and predicting precisely where a loose ball will drop. It’s this ability to sniff out the scrappiest of goals that Everton have missed since Romelu Lukaku joined Manchester United for big money in the summer.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Oumar Niasse and Sandro Ramirez have left a lot to be desired on the goalscoring front this season, after all.
Averaging better than a goal every-other-game in the Championship, it seems only a matter of time before Reid is the toast of the top flight.
