Bristol City will have a new striker as one of their main priorities heading into the summer transfer window as the Robins seek to replace Tammy Abraham, who returned to parent club Chelsea following an impressive season at Ashton Gate.

The 19-year-old scored 26 goals in the Championship and was one of City’s glimmers of light in what a season that their supporters will be keen to forget. Lee Johnson’s men finished in 17th position, just three points clear of the relegation places.

If the club hopes to steer well clear of another relegation battle then they will need to fill the gaping void left by the loss of Abraham.

Swansea City’s Oliver McBurnie has the potential to realistically replicate Abraham’s goal scoring exploits. The 20-year-old is highly rated at the Liberty Stadium and has an impressive goals record in the club’s development squad.

He has scored 24 goals in 29 appearances an his performances in the Premier League 2 division has led to him making five first team appearances for the Swans.

McBurnie has had previous loan spells in League Two with Bristol Rovers and Newport County but the Welsh side will be keen to see their bright prospect play at a higher level.

A loan spell in the Championship looks set to be his next move in the next stage of his development and a long-term loan spell at Ashton Gate would be a viable option for both parties concerned.

City are well renowned for their attacking style of play and this will give McBurnie the opportunity to showcase his goalscoring credentials.
