Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers offered a paltry £350k for the 23-year-old winger this month.

Rangers have had a very decent January transfer window so far.

Graeme Murty has signed up five players: Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy, Jason Cummings and Russell Martin signed up for half-season loans, while Greg Docherty joined in a permanent switch from Hamilton this week.

One target who has evaded the Rangers boss is Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones, the subject of a £350,000 bid earlier this month according to BBC Sport.

But if rumours are to be believed then Jones is the real deal and the Gers should up their bid dramatically as soon as possible.

The Daily Mail reported on Saturday that Rangers have been joined by Championship side Bristol City in the race to sign Jones. If true, it indicates that the 23-year-old winger is a major talent and the Robins’ entry into the mix could and certainly should prompt a proactive approach from Murty.

This is a team who sit fourth in the Championship and two points adrift of the automatic promotion spots.

Lee Johnson’s side could well be playing Premier League football by August and their reported interest implies that they feel he is good enough to at least help them reach the top flight, which in turn means that he could, in time, be a big hit in the Premiership.

If Jones does leave for Ashton Gate and winds up being a big player then it would make Rangers’ paltry £350k bid – which Killie boss Steve Clarke said to The Scottish Sun was “nowhere near acceptable” – look embarrassing.

If the Ibrox side are serious about getting him then, really, it’s time to act like it.
