The Robins were beaten 2-1 by Dean Smith’s high-flying Villans in their Championship clash at Villa Park.
A number of Bristol City fans have been left seething by the decision to award Aston Villa a penalty which put the Championship playoff chasers ahead in the game between the two sides at Villa Park on Saturday.
Neither side could break the deadlock come the half-time whistle but, 10 minutes after the restart, Jack Hunt was adjudged by referee Scott Duncan to have pulled Conor Hourihane down in the box.
The prolific Tammy Abraham stepped up and, against the club where he truly burst onto the scene two seasons ago, rattled home his 24th of the season to put Dean Smith’s charges into the lead.
Hourihane then grabbed a goal of his own on 66 minutes when he latched on to Anwar El Ghazi’s clever pass in the box to slam a first-time finish beyond the reach of City keeper Max O’Leary, who had been doing superbly to keep the scoreline down.
Indeed, the Robins remained in the game right until the end after Famara Diedhiou’s acrobatic finish with 17 minutes left kept the Robins in the contest, but ultimately Villa would hold on for an eighth consecutive win.
