Bristol City have reportedly missed out on Eddie Nketiah to Leeds United.

Bristol City were thumped on the opening weekend of the Championship season, as they were beaten 3-1 by Leeds United at Ashton Gate.

The Robins were outclassed by Marcelo Bielsa’s side, and as if losing on the pitch to the Whites wasn’t bad enough, they’re set to lose out off the pitch too.

The Independent report that Bristol City have been chasing Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah on loan, seeing the youngster as the ideal striker to challenge Famara Diedhiou in attack.

Unfortunately for them, it’s claimed that Nketiah will instead choose to join Leeds on a season-long loan, with a move expected to go through today.

Leeds director of football Victor Orta has allegedly used his relationship with Unai Emery to personally convince the Gunners to accept Leeds’ offer, given that the Spaniards know each other from Sevilla.

Nketiah, 20, notched nine goals and four goals in just 10 Premier League 2 games last season, whilst also managing two goals in nine first-team outings.

A loan move is needed for Nketiah, and whilst Leeds fans will be delighted that such a talented striker is heading to Elland Road, Bristol City fans aren’t happy at all.

Lee Johnson has needed a striker all summer, but having waited and waited for Nketiah – only to potentially miss out – the Robins head into deadline day with Diedhiou and Matty Taylor as their strikers.

Robins fans have taken to Twitter to brand the club ’embarrassing’ and ‘pathetic’ for missing out on Nketiah, slamming them for not getting the hint that he didn’t want to join, whilst admitting that they hate Leeds even more now, and the rejection is a hard-hitting blow ahead of the deadline.
