Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted to Harry Kane’s comments about the club’s commitment following the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo and the arrival of Antonio Conte.
Life under Conte, in the Premier League, will get underway on Sunday afternoon when Spurs take on Everton at Goodison Park – this after a mixed and morale-sapping start under the now sacked Nuno.
It started with three points against Vitesse in the Europa Conference League for Conte and Kane spoke about how there are ‘no excuses’ for the players to deliver the goods now, as he told the Guardian.
In what was a pretty, honest and frank interview from the England captain, he made it clear that the only way for the club to ‘move forward’ is for everyone to be on one page.
“He (Conte) will give us everything,” said Kane. “He has to improve us and now it is down to us to have no excuses.
“We have to make sure every minute of our lives, we are trying to improve and win for the team. That is the only way we move forward.”
Spurs fans have shared a mixed reaction to what they are hearing from Kane, with some suggesting that he and the players weren’t giving their all under Nuno, or even buying into what he was trying to teach them at Hotspur Way.
One on hand, that’s bad reading for the former Wolves man, but on the other, regardless of who is in the dugout, you give your all for the badge.
That’s why some are critical of their player’s comments, but others have taken a positive light from it and suggested that this is what they like to hear from their star striker.
It has been well-documented what went on with Kane in the summer and how there was talk of him possibly leaving the North London club.
That drama dragged through pre-season and into the start of the new campaign, which played a part in Kane’s pretty abject run of form, hence why he only has only one Premier League to his name.
But, with Conte now in charge, he will be hoping that changes his form and he can start showcasing his old self again because Tottenham seriously need it.
