It’s been a difficult season for Arsenal so far but this is certainly true of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabon international put pen to paper on a new contract in North London in September, ending months worth of speculation regarding his future.

But since committing to a new deal, the Arsenal striker’s form has declined in a major way.

The 31-year-old has carried his team-mates for much of his three-year spell at the Emirates Stadium and without his goals, the Gunners, who won the FA Cup in August, would be in serious trouble.

We know this because he isn’t scoring at the moment and Mikel Arteta’s side are struggling big time, sitting 12th in the Premier League table after scoring just nine goals this season.

Aubameyang only has two in the Premier League and just the one since signing his new deal – a penalty in the win at Manchester United at the beginning of the month.

And speaking to Sky Sports, Paul Merson claims that the former Borussia Dortmund hitman is ‘bringing absolutely nothing’ to the table right now.

He said: “Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is bringing absolutely nothing to the party at the moment. He played central and he was ineffective as he was before. Aubameyang plays up front and does not touch the ball. There is no running off the ball.”

It’s a cliche, but form is temporary and class is permanent and Aubameyang will surely remind English football of this adage over the coming weeks.

If he doesn’t then Arsenal could be in much bigger trouble.
