Arsenal fans have been left emotional after seeing a picture of Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal embracing in the tunnel last night.
The former Arsenal pair came up against each other when Cazorla’s Villarreal side took on Real Sociedad.
And Arsenal fans couldn’t help but feel the experienced pair could still offer something to Mikel Arteta’s side even now, despite their advancing years.
Cazorla has enjoyed a remarkable season in La Liga this term, where he has notched 11 goals and claimed nine assists at the age of 35.
Monreal has also played regularly, despite being 34, and could have offered Arsenal cover at both centre-back and left-back, if he had been kept around.
There has actually been some rumours that Cazorla could make a return to the Emirates, but as a coach rather than a player.
It was Monreal’s Sociedad side who came out on top last night, as they beat Villarreal 2-1, but Cazorla did manage to get on the scoresheet for his team during the contest.
