Let’s be honest and admit that Liverpool have had a pretty disastrous season.

Yes, they’re still in the Champions League, but a 25-point deficit from top-of-the-table Manchester City in the Premier League means that they won’t be defending their title successfully.

On the domestic front, it’s been a total flop of a campaign but injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez in defence have undeniably contributed to their league woes.

Liverpool have learned the true cost of missing big players this season but it looks like Jurgen Klopp will also be without some major stars next season – well, in the short term.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita will all miss a chunk of the Reds’ season sometime around January and February of next year after their respective nations – Egypt, Senegal and Guinea – all qualified for the 2022 African Cup of Nations last night.

The competition will run from January 9 to February 6 of next year and considering how influential those players are for Klopp – Salah and Mane in particular – Liverpool’s season could yet again be interrupted negatively by a loss of key personnel.

Here’s how some fans of the Merseyside club reacted to the potential treble blow.
