Speaking on the All to Play For Podcast, Joe Cole has named two signings he thinks Newcastle United should make.
The Magpies have been taken over and are now one of the richest clubs in the Premier League, and inevitably, that has led to plenty of discussion about future transfers.
Some have dreams of the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland coming to St James’ Park, but Cole believes Newcastle need to build slowly, and he’s named two proven and attainable players as potential signings.
What’s been said?
“There are plenty of people in this game who would take them for a ride, so they need to be very clever,” Cole said.
“They need good players through the door and good players who know the Premier League. Off the top of my head, Aaron Ramsey, he’s not playing at Juventus, he’s a good player and you know he’s better than what you’ve got. Jesse Lingard isn’t playing enough, maybe he fancies the challenge. Bring in those two and then another two, you say over 20 games you fancy them to finish above Burnley, Norwich, Watford, who else is down there? Well, if you finish above them you stay up.”

Need to stay up
Yes, Newcastle want to be challenging for major honours in years to come, but the first thing on their agenda has to be staying up.
Signing one or two big names could unsettle the squad, while a more wholesale and moderate rebuild could potentially be exactly what the Magpies need right now.
Ramsey and Lingard are two talented footballers with a point to prove and Newcastle could do a lot worse than bring the pair to St James’ Park.
