Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after hearing that Jose Campana had scored against Real Madrid for Levante.
What’s the story?
Well, if you cast your mind back to 2013/14, you’ll recall the Spaniard spending time at Selhurst Park under Ian Holloway.
Campana joined the south Londoners in a £1.75m deal back in July 2013, but went on to struggle at Crystal Palace.
In total, the 28-year-old only made six appearances for the Eagles, in which he provided two assists.
In fairness, things at Selhurst Park were far from settled that summer under Holloway. Many new faces came in, but the club failed to perform on the pitch.
Now, the 1-cap Spain international is thriving back in La Liga, and netted a thumping volley against Real Madrid to show Crystal Palace what they’re missing.
Eventually, Campana left for Sampdoria in July 2014, after failing to make a single appearance under Tony Pulis.
Did Crystal Palace make a mistake with Jose Campana?

In our view, no – Crystal Palace did not make a mistake.
At the time, you could see Campana was a wonderful footballer, although not exactly the type to thrive in a side led by Pulis.
The Welshman opted for his more physical options such as Mile Jedinak and Joe Ledley, with the mercurial Spaniard completely frozen out.
It was, quite simply, a case of the right player at the wrong time.

In this current system under Patrick Vieira, Campana would’ve been much better suited.
Sadly, he arrived in England entirely at the wrong time.
Let’s see what the Crystal Palace fans on Twitter have been saying about Campana’s goal against Real Madrid…
