West Bromwich Albion are searching for a new manager after confirming the departure of Tony Pulis on Monday morning.
The Baggies lost 4-0 at home to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, meaning they had won just twice in their last 21 Premier League games, and Pulis ultimately paid the price with his job.
The Welshman’s reign at The Hawthorns ends after almost three years in the job, and the attention now turns to finding a replacement who can take the club forward.
Reports from The Mirror on Monday night suggested that owner Guochuan Lai has identified a top target for the job, with Sam Allardyce targeted.
Allardyce, 63, has been out of football since leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season, and whilst he has been linked with a move to Everton, he remains out of the game.
‘Big Sam’ was not only born in nearby Dudley, but also joined West Brom as a player-coach in 1989, meaning he could return to the club if appointed.
The former England boss has a superb record of getting teams away from relegation trouble, with West Ham United, Sunderland and Crystal Palace all surviving under his tutelage.
However, West Brom fans are far from impressed, suggesting that Allardyce would be no different to Pulis given his direct style of play, even claiming that the club risk disenfranchising fans by making such an appointment.
Others called for Pulis to be brought back if Allardyce is the intended replacement, with supporters far from happy with owner Guochuan Lai’s latest plan to solve the club’s problems on the pitch.
