Stephen Warnock has lauded Mohamed Salah for the Liverpool winger’s technique to score from a penalty against Aston Villa, while speaking on the BBC’s Final Score (11/12, 16:05).

Salah has been sensational this season, with a hand in the scoring during each of his last 14 Premier League appearances. He has only failed to score or lay on an assist once so far this term, coming during a 2-0 win in week two of the campaign at home to Burnley.

The Egyptian’s penalty to open the scoring was his 14th league goal this term and 21st in all competitions. A staggering haul, given Salah has featured 22 times and assisted nine goals.

Referee Stewart Atwell pointed to the spot in the 65th-minute of Liverpool’s meeting with Aston Villa after Tyrone Mings and Salah tangled in the box.

Salah opted to step up and take the kick, and sent the ball flashing past Emiliano Martinez.

The Aston Villa shot-stopper dove the right way, but the pace of Salah’s shot ensured the ball hit the net. Martinez was close to getting a finger onto the ball, however.

Warnock lauds Liverpool star Salah for penalty technique

Salah impressed Warnock with his technique to flash the ball into the Aston Villa net and put Liverpool ahead.

“He was [close], but the sheer pace of the penalty, it’s brilliant,” Warnock said. “The actual penalty itself, Tyrone Mings gets himself in a position where he thinks Mohamed Salah is going to come in on that left foot, drags him down the line and just needs half a yard.

“Once he gets his body across, he’s got every right to go down.”

Former Scotland winger Pat Nevin also though Salah’s technique to score what would be a crucial penalty for Liverpool against Aston Villa in the 67th-minute was from the top-draw.

“The keeper goes the right way, he moves quickly. However, if you hit it with that level of power into the corner, the side netting, it’s an absolutely brilliant penalty,” Nevin said on BBC Radio 5 Live (16:27).

Salah’s penalty ensured Liverpool beat Aston Villa and stayed a point behind Manchester City at the top of the table. The Citizens had beaten Wolves 1-0 earlier on Saturday after a penalty from former Reds winger Raheem Sterling.
