Leeds United fans have reacted on Twitter as a section of Whites fans were chanting Patrick Bamford’s name when Ollie Watkins came on for England today.

The Three Lions beat Romania 1-0 in an international friendly at the Riverside Stadium, with Villa’s number nine coming on as a second-half substitute.

When he was brought on, a section of fans could be heard chanting ‘du du du Patrick Bamford’.

ITV commentator, Sam Matterface, claimed that a section of Leeds fans around him were singing that chant every time the Villa player touched the ball.

When Gareth Southgate named his 33-man squad, before it was trimmed down to 26, a lot was made about Watkins being selected ahead of Bamford.

Both players produced outstanding seasons in Villa and Leeds colours this season, with Watkins netting 14 goals and Harry Kane being the only Englishman to outscore Bamford.

A lot of Leeds fans felt that their player was hard done by and he should have been selected against Villa’s club-record signing.

And whilst Watkins won’t be heading for the Euros, it does seem as though he is ahead of the Leeds man in England’s pecking order.

Either way, it will be interesting to see how the duo battle it out next season because there will now be big expectation on their shoulders.

And if Leeds fans think that Bamford should be ahead of Watkins then he has the chance to prove himself once more for the 2021/22 campaign.

Here is a selection of Leeds fans on that Bamford chant:
