Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to reveal that they’d like to see Eddie Howe replace Neil Lennon, after he oversaw a 2-0 defeat to Rangers in the Old Firm derby.

Lennon’s side slipped four points behind Steven Gerrard’s men after a double from Connor Goldson saw the Gers steal all three points at Celtic Park.

So far this term, Celtic have won eight, drawn one and lost one of their opening ten league games, a record which Rangers have taken advantage of despite playing a game more.

As a result, some supporters of the reigning Scottish champions want to see Howe appointed as the ex-Bolton manager’s replacement.

The 42-year-old is currently unemployed after leaving Bournemouth following the Cherries’ relegation to the Championship.

Howe’s former assistant Jason Tindall took the reins at the Vitality Stadium, and had some words of praise to direct towards his former colleague after his exit.

Tindall told the BBC: ‘What he has done for this club is nothing short of a miracle.’

It is clear that those once close to the Amersham-born coach hold him in high regard, as his former striker Brett Pitman also spoke glowingly about the ex-Bournemouth manager.

When discussing Howe’s attention to detail in regards to extra sessions, the Bournemouth Echo quote the Jersey-born forward as saying: ‘Of course, you would always want to do it because it wouldn’t just be ‘do you want to do a session’ and a coach would be there. He would be the one taking it, with all his staff – that is special.’

There is no denying that Howe is a good manager and it would be interesting to see how he gets on in Scotland.

He took Bournemouth out of League Two despite a 17-point deduction, before leaving for Burnley.

However, he eventually returned to the South Coast with the Cherries still in League One, where he oversaw two promotions to get them into the Premier League for the first time in their history.

Howe did this while developing the likes of Callum Wilson and Scotland international Ryan Fraser.

Sadly, his tenure at Bournemouth ended badly with relegation, although he could perhaps be excused by the break as a result of lockdown, and the huge disruption that caused to football.

He has definitely earned a chance to manage a top club, and the Celtic fans want to see him in the dugout at Celtic Park following Saturday’s limp defeat.

It would be harsh on Lennon if he is sacked, however.

The ex-Celtic player led the Hoops to their ninth successive Scottish Premiership title last season, and would presumably like to be in charge to try and achieve a stunning ten titles in a row.

Admittedly, the club’s start to the season hasn’t been fantastic as Gerrard’s men steal an early march on top spot, but to get rid of Lennon now after just ten games would be a bold move.

Having said that, there’s no denying Howe’s pedigree as a manager.

Let’s see what they’ve been saying about Howe on Twitter…
