There was good news for Jordon Ibe on Thursday, though it was countered by bad news for Suso.
Thursday was a day of mixed fortunes for Liverpool.
The Reds had just lost 1-0 to Basel in the Champions League the night before, meaning the mood was hardly going to be one of jubilation from the off.
Brendan Rodgers later spoke confidently at his pre-match press conference, however, and confirmed that the club are in talks with Daniel Sturridge’s representatives over a new contract for the striker.
A step back in the right direction, then. And there was more good news as Liverpool youngster Jordon Ibe, currently on loan at Derby, was called up to the England Under-20 squad.
The 18-year-old has impressed Rams fans with his performances since linking up with the Championship side and has received just reward with the international call-up.
But it was a mixed day, after all, meaning there was bad news for a fellow youngster: 20-year-old Suso.
Indeed, the Spaniard confirmed on social media site Instagram earlier today that he will miss ‘a couple of months’ with injury:
“Just to tell you I’ll be out of the team for a couple of months with a surgery operation next week coz of my groins [sic]… I’ll be back soon.. Stronger than ever..YNWA,” he said, posting the above photo.
