Ian Wright has paid tribute to Arsenal hitman Alexandre Lacazette.
The French striker won the penalty which saw Arsenal go 2-0 ahead in Friday night’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium.
Days earlier, Lacazette came off the bench to net a last-gasp equaliser in the Gunners’ 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.
The former Lyon hitman is out of contract next summer and the North Londoners are thought to have offered him to at least three clubs in January – Inter, Roma and AC Milan [Calciomercato].
But legendary Arsenal striker Wright, speaking to Optus Sport, has labelled him ‘brilliant’ for his performance against the Villans.
He said: “I thought Lacazette and the way he was was brilliant. He is somebody who when he picks up his space there, it’s perfect.”
Should they give him a new deal?
Despite his form, Arsenal should still move him on in January if they don’t intend to give him a new contract.
Impressive as he has been this season, there’s just no future for him at the Emirates Stadium and the sooner that Edu replaces him, the better.
He’s a brilliant worker and a decent goalscorer but if you’re only okay at finding the net, and you’re over 30, then running and link-up play isn’t going to be enough to save you – and it shouldn’t.
Goals win games and if Edu can find a better, younger goalscorer to replace him long term then that’s the best outcome for Arsenal.
