Jamie Carragher has labelled Emi Martinez as a brilliant signing once again after his departure from Arsenal to join Aston Villa on Monday Night Football, which was broadcast by Sky Sports.
Arsenal opted to sell Martinez for £17 million (BBC Sport) and keep Bernd Leno in the summer, and the Gunners loss has certainly been Villa’s gain.
Martinez has barely put a foot wrong since becoming Villa’s number one this term.
And Carragher has suggested that the former Arsenal man is now one of the very best goalkeepers in the league.
“I think of a team who have gone from almost going to being a comfortable top 10 team,” he said, after naming Martinez in his Team of the Season.
“He has got 17 clean sheets, the best save to shot ratio in the league and I just think he’s been a brilliant signing and looks like one of the top keepers in the league now.”
The comments are likely to make Arsenal fans wince, as their decision to let go of Martinez is looking like a major error now.

While the Argentine has gone from strength to strength, Leno hasn’t always convinced back at the Emirates Stadium.
There are now huge doubts over whether Leno will even be at Arsenal next season, with Football London saying he’s available for transfer.
And Mikel Arteta could certainly be forgiven for thinking that he has backed the wrong man now, given Martinez’s success at Villa Park.
