BBC pundit Michael Brown lauded Rodrigo for his decisive late goal for Sam Allardyce’s Leeds United in their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City.

The £30 million (Guardian) man capitalised on a mistake on the ball from Manuel Akanji to drill the ball past Ederson Moraes.

While Leeds United ultimately tasted defeat, Rodrigo was praised by pundit Michael Brown for his strike against Manchester City.

Pundit Michael Brown lauds Rodrigo as Leeds lose to Manchester City

While the final scoreline indicates that the contest was a close affair, that could not be further away from the truth.

Pep Guardiola’s men purred for much of the contest, with Ilkay Gundogan bagging a stunning brace.

However, pundit Michael Brown praised Rodrigo for his late goal that made what was a one-sided clash between Leeds and Manchester City end up closer that one excepted to at the end.

“Leeds United can always score a goal, they switched off for a second. Rodrigo with a brilliant left-footed finish just inside the penalty area”, he said on BBC Sport.

“Now it makes the end of the game exciting.”

After Ilkay Gundogan fluffed his line from the penalty spot, the Spanish international did what he does best and was clinical in front of goal.

HITC View: Rodrigo is one of the most underrated players in the Premier League

While most of the post-match discourse will be dominated by Leeds looking relegation-bound and Manchester City inching closer to a three-peat, pundit Michael Brown perhaps did the right thing by lavishing praise on to the underappreciated Rodrigo.

Despite scoring 12 goals in the league for a side that could play in the Championship next season, he is rarely ever hailed for how impressive a campaign he has had.

It’s high-time Rodrigo gets the credit he deserves and potentially even pushes for a starting spot for Spain under Luis de la Fuente.
