Former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is reported to have wanted the Brighton and Hove Albion defender at Parkhead.

Brighton and Hove Albion’s Shane Duffy has hinted he would like to play for Celtic ‘one day’.
Duffy, for whom Brendan Rodgers is said to have enquired about signing for the Scottish champions in 2016 [Daily Mail], made the admission during an impromptu Q&A session on Instagram.
Asked if he would be interested in a move to Celtic, the Republic of Ireland centre-back replied: “Maybe one day”, adding the crossed-fingers emoji.

Duffy moved to Brighton from Blackburn Rovers shortly after the alleged approach from Rodgers, costing the now Premier League a reported fee of around £4.75 million [Transfermarkt].
The 27-year-old has since formed an impressive partnership with Lewis Dunk at the heart of Brighton’s defence, and signed a new deal until 2023 earlier this season – which suggests it could be a while before Duffy is seen in Celtic colours.

Asked if his Ireland teammate, James McClean, will ever sign for the Bhoys, Duffy added: “He’s been trying for years the poor fella”.
