HITC Sport understands Charlton are set to sign Brighton midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey, after a disappointing loan spell at Rotherham United.

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey is poised to join Charlton Athletic after Brighton cut short his loan spell at Rotherham United, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Forster-Caskey joined Rotherham on a season-long loan in the summer after being signed by former Millers boss Alan Stubbs.

The England Under-21 international made seven appearances under Stubbs, but he has not featured since Paul Warne took over as caretaker manager.

Brighton have opted to cut short his loan stay at the New York Stadium if he does not figure in Warne’s plans and Charlton have moved quickly to land Forster-Caskey.

Charlton boss Karl Robinson is a big fan of Forster-Caskey having worked with him at MK Dons last season during two loan spells at the club.

Forster-Caskey made 20 appearances during his two loan spells at MK Dons and Robinson is keen to be reunited with the midfielder as he sees him playing a key role in his plans going forward at the Valley.

Brighton have agreed to sell Forster-Caskey on a permanent basis with his contract due to expire next summer at the Championship promotion hopefuls.
