After heartbreak at the end of the 2015/16 season, Brighton & Hove Albion look set for another promotion push this season.
With promotion set firmly in their sights, Brighton started the year by strengthening their squad in January, bringing in the likes of Anthony Knockaert from Standard Liege.

After losing their first two games at the start of the year, Brighton went on an excellent run between January and March, winning 8 of their 14 Championship fixtures, including a 4-0 win against Leeds United.

With the end of the season fast approaching, Brighton needed to beat Middlesbrough on the last day to secure a second place finish and automatic promotion to the Premier League.

However, after Dale Stephens’ dismissal on the 59th minute, Brighton failed to overcome the 1-1 scoreline with just 10 men, resulting in the Seagulls finishing 3rd, with Middlesbrough finishing above them to gain promotion.

Moving into the play-offs, Brighton faced an impressive Sheffield Wednesday side in the race to Wembley. However, after losing the first leg 2-0, the Seagulls could only rescue a 1-1 draw at home, meaning they would once again miss out on promotion.

Moving quickly to strengthen their squad in the summer, Brighton & Hove Albion brought in five players, including Reading’s Oliver Norwood and Blackburn’s Shane Duffy.

After beginning the 16/17 season with a goalless draw against Derby County, the Seagulls started well by winning 5 of their first 10 Championship fixtures, including 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest.

Moving into October, Brighton’s form picked up significantly, winning all but one of their games that month, including a 5-0 home win over promotion rivals, Norwich City.

With the new year fast approaching, Brighton currently sit second in the table, hot on the heels of Newcastle United. If they can again strengthen their squad in January, there’s no reason why this can’t be the year that Brighton finally reach the lofty heights of the Premier League.
