As per a report by the Telegraph, Brighton & Hove Albion are ‘in talks’ to complete a deal for Shakhtar Donestk defender, Mykola Matviyenko in January.
The 26-year-old shared a successful working relationship with Seagulls boss, Roberto De Zerbi during their time together in Ukraine.
It seems Mykola Matviyenko and Roberto De Zerbi may well be reunited, as Brighton seemed to have open talks to sign him in the January transfer window.
The Athletic had reported that Chelsea loanee, Lewi Colwill, who has made a name for himself at the Amex Stadium is set to be injured for 6 weeks.
Keeping that in mind, it makes sense why the currently 6th placed side in the Premier League are looking to replace the youngster with a left-footed central defender.
Also, it is important to remember that the club have a chance of qualifying for Europe for the first time in their history.
Roberto De Zerbi has done a phenomenal job as a Graham Potter successor so far, and considering his side are going from strength to strength, it would be unambitious not to look for a Colwill replacement.
Brighton in talks with Mykola Matviyenko over January signing
The Telegraph have reported that Brighton & Hove Albion are in talks to sign Mykola Matviyenko in January.
Further details claim that the player himself is open to a switch to the Premier League, as well as reuniting with De Zerbi.
The Italian tactician himself is pushing the club’s board to wrap up a deal for the 26-year-old, as per the Athletic’s David Ornstein.
The only issue currently remains that Shakhtar are demanding the Premier League side to pay upwards of their set valuation of £20 million.
However, it seems as if a deal could well be agreed for Mykola Matviyenko in January, as Brighton opening talks is a sign that they are keen on replacing Levi Colwill.
