Brighton’s David Stockdale has commented on his beloved Leeds United.
Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper David Stockdale has told Sky Sports’ EFL Weekly podcast that he would love Leeds United to finish second in the Championship this season, behind his current employers.
Leeds kept up their superb season under Garry Monk by beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Wednesday evening, meaning they sit third in the Championship table, seven points off an automatic promotion spot – though they have played a game more than both Newcastle and Brighton, who occupy the two two places.
There is still time for Leeds to make up ground on the top two, and they look to be the favourites to challenge the top two if anybody can, having impressed so much under Monk this season.

League leaders Brighton will be wary of Leeds, and one player in particular will be keeping a close eye on the Whites and their fortunes this season; goalkeeper David Stockdale.
Stockdale, 31, was born and bred in Leeds but never passed through the famed Leeds academy, as he was with Huddersfield Town and York City in his early years, though he would allegedly still like to play for Leeds one day.
The shot-stopper has been a regular for Brighton this season, and has now racked up more than 100 appearances for the Seagulls, with Stockdale bound to be key to any promotion push from Chris Hughton’s man.

Speaking to Sky Sports’ EFL podcast ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup tie against Lincoln City, Stockdale has admitted that he would like to win the Championship with his beloved Leeds coming second, meaning Newcastle would have to settle for a play-off place in Stockdale’s dream scenario.
Stockdale did note the unpredictable nature of the Championship, but admitted that Leeds boss Monk is proving him right having thought he was a good appointment over the summer.
“I wouldn’t mind winning the league and Leeds coming second,” said Stockdale. “It’s such a competitive league, though. We went to Preston at lost – Leeds got beat at Barnsley. Long may it continue that Leeds do well.”
“I remember saying that Monk was perfect for Leeds and he’s proving me right! Leeds are my club. I grew up watching them in the Champions League. For me to see that come back to where they are now is a thrilling time,” he added.
