After an impressive loan spell, Roberto De Zerbi should give Steven Alzate a chance to prove his worth at Brighton this season.
Steven Alzate joined Brighton from Leyton Orient in 2017, but the midfielder has struggled to establish himself at the Amex Stadium since then. The 24-year-old has plenty of talent though, and has earned seven caps for Colombia.
Alzate seemed to really kick on last season during a loan stint with Standard Liege. He played 29 times for the Belgian outfit, notching three goals and five assists in the process. Carrying that form back to the Premier League will be a challenge, but Alzate deserves the chance to show he has developed into a player who can thrive at that level.

Time for Alzate to shine
With Moises Caicedo inching towards an exit, and Alexis Mac Allister having already left the club, Brighton’s midfield will certainly look different next season. The Seagulls are going to have to spend in order to rebuild the heart of their team. However, Alzate can certainly be part of the solution.
Despite never truly settling under Graham Potter, Alzate could fit much more comfortably into De Zerbi’s system. Alzate’s natural flair, quickness, and willingness to dart forward would make him a potent weapon in De Zerbi’s arsenal. On top of that, he knows the club and feels comfortable there and wouldn’t cost Brighton a penny. Alzate represents a stable option in a summer of inevitable change.
