In a summer that will certainly prove transformative in midfield, Brighton should consider signing Albert Sambi Lokonga to give them fresh depth in the middle of the park.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi will have to rebuild his side’s midfield this summer. One player he could look to bring in to help with this process is Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Alexis Mac Allister has already left the Seagulls in order to join Liverpool. Moises Caicedo looks like he will soon be following the Argentine out of the Amex Stadium. Those two exits will decimate the Brighton midfield that played such a crucial role in helping the club secure a historic sixth place finish in the Premier League.

De Zerbi faces a huge job in crafting his new midfield, and will need to consider internal and external solutions. One such solution could be a move to bring in Lokonga, who has already made it clear that he is open to a move away from the Emirates Stadium this summer in order to seek regular game time.

Why Brighton should consider Lokonga

The Belgian midfielder has struggled to settle since his arrival at Arsenal in 2021, only managing sporadic starts in the Premier League. He got regular game time whilst on loan with Crystal Palace last season, and looked to be gaining confidence, until he dropped out of the team after Roy Hodgson replaced Patrick Vieira in the dugout at Selhurst Park.

Lokonga’s quality is clear though. He is very technically adept and comfortable in possession. He could certainly thrive under De Zerbi if given regular minutes. The 23-year-old has been capped at senior level by Belgium, and would likely be available on loan or for a fair price this summer given that he is unsettled at Arsenal. He would certainly be an interesting option to provide depth in Brighton’s refreshed midfield.
