Brighton want Sergio Reguilon but their attempts to sign the Tottenham Hotspur left back as a replacement for Marc Cucurella have so far proven fruitless.

The Seagulls tend to rake in the cash when they sell their key players to the so-called big six.

Ben White made a huge move to Arsenal last summer and Yves Bissouma has joined Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

It now looks like Marc Cucurella will be leaving too, even if Brighton publicly denied agreeing a deal with any club late on Wednesday night.

Fabrizio Romano remains adamant that Cucurella will be in London today to join Chelsea for £52.5million, leaving Brighton to target a replacement.

Brighton want Sergio Reguilon

The Guardian report that Brighton have made a move to sign Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon – but their attempt has failed.

It’s stated that Brighton identified Reguilon and Porto’s Zaidu Sanusi as potential replacements for Cucurella, but neither will be joining as things stand.

The report doesn’t explain why a deal for Reguilon isn’t happening, but convincing him may be part of the problem.

Whilst Reguilon would probably cost less than half of the Cucurella fee, Reguilon may feel that he can do better than Brighton.

Reguilon was a Real Madrid player two years ago and has been linked with the likes of Juventus and Barcelona this summer.

Brighton are an outstanding team and have a quality manager in Graham Potter, meaning the Seagulls are looking to progress this season.

Yet it may be a little too soon to be able to tempt players like Reguilon to the South Coast.

Reguilon may not be joining Brighton but he is unlikely to have a Tottenham future any time soon.

Antonio Conte left Reguilon out of the pre-season tour to South Korea, clearly indicating that his time with the club is over.

A new left wing back has arrived in Ivan Perisic and Reguilon needs to leave if he is to play first-team football, but Brighton seemingly won’t be his destination.
