Leeds United are still in need of a new centre-back – how about one they tried and failed to sign in 2015?

Leeds United’s fine start to the Championship season owes much to the club’s revamped scouting set-up. Director of Football Victor Orta arrived at Elland Road amid mixed reviews from his time as head of recruitment at Middlesbrough but, so far, the Spaniard appears to have the Midas Touch.
The likes of Samu Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski arrived at Leeds as complete unknowns but are looking like inspired bargains after a matter of weeks. Yet, despite the fact that The Whites have kept clean sheets in each of their last four Championship fixtures, a new centre-back would be the icing on the transfer cake.
After all, the pressure is on Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper to stay free of injury and suspension with the currently crocked Matthew Pennington the only senior centre-half in reserve.
Therefore, the fact that Brighton are willing to loan Connor Goldson out to a Championship club, as reported by The Argus, should not have passed them by.

The report claims that the 24-year-old is highly rated at The Amex but currently lies behind Shane Duffy, Lewis Dunk and Uwe Hunemeier in the pecking order, meaning The Seagulls are open to the idea of Goldson earning more regular game-time elsewhere.
And this is an ideal opportunity for Leeds, with the report adding that Goldson is subject to plenty of Championship interest.

HITC Sport sources told us in 2015 that Leeds had made a bid for the former Shrewsbury Town centre-back, only for Brighton to turn it down. Two years on, however, he could be the perfect solution to Leeds’ lack of defensive depth.
He knows the league for a start, and his excellent distribution means he’d fit right into the passing style espoused by Thomas Christiansen at Elland Road.
