Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that Brighton & Hove Albion look set to beat Arsenal to the transfer incoming of Mahmoud Dahoud.
It was claimed in March by Sky Germany that Mikel Arteta’s side were tempted by the prospect of signing the £10.3 million (Guardian) from Borussia Dortmund.
Fast forward to Friday and it seems like Brighton & Hove Albion and not Arsenal are inching towards getting a transfer over the line for Mahmoud Dahoud.
Brighton set to beat Arsenal to Dahoud transfer
One can understand why the 27-year-old caught the Gunners’ eye in the first place, as he would have added control to the side, which would help them get over the line in a lot more games than at present.
Branded as a ‘midfield orchestrator’ by Sportskeeda, the German international is the archetypal technically gifted tempo-setter that would fit in perfectly in Mikel Arteta’s side.
However, Fabrizio Romano was the bearer of bad news for Arsenal as he reported that Brighton are indeed ‘closing in’ on securing a transfer involving Mahmoud Dahoud.

The deal has been described as ‘advanced’, with only certain final details left to be finalised before it is made official.
Romano further clarified that the move is ‘close’ to being completed.
HITC View: Arsenal could aim higher anyway
While Mahmoud Dahoud is a wonderful footballer, Arsenal could have bigger and better names on their transfer wish list, as move to a club like Brighton makes a lot more sense for both parties.
Dahoud has been hit and miss at Dortmund and despite his lovely array of qualities, he is yet to cement his status as one of Europe’s best No.8’s.
Considering the second-best team in the Premier League currently have been linked with names like Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo primarily, it also seems like the club are eyeing a superior duel-winner rather than a controller anyway.
As a result, Arsenal really have nothing worry about when it comes to Dahoud potentially signing for the Seagulls.
