Brighton and Hove Albion want Maycon as they chase the Shakhtar Donetsk talent for a reunion with boss Roberto De Zerbi.
The Seagulls will have known that, in all likelihood, Graham Potter was going to leave at some point.
Potter’s move to Chelsea caused major upheaval though and Italian boss De Zerbi has been brought in as his replacement.
That meant bringing in new staff to work with De Zerbi as he surrounds himself with people he knows well, but it could mean signings he knows too.

Brighton and Hove Albion want Maycon
UOL Esporte in Brazil report that Brighton are now looking to sign Shakhtar midfielder Maycon.
De Zerbi worked with Maycon in Ukraine and the pair could now reunite.
Porto are also interested in Maycon, who is currently on loan at his former Brazilian club Corinthians due to the conflict in Ukraine.
The 25-year-old featured prominently under De Zerbi and a reunion may well appeal to the midfielder.
Brighton targeting another midfielder brings up two trains of thought.
One is that Brighton have just lost Enock Mwepu, who has been forced to retire early due to a cardiac condition.
Mwepu was an important first-team member at the Amex Stadium and will now need to be replaced, with Maycon a possible answer.
Another train of thought is that Brighton are facing major interest in Moises Caicedo in 2023.
Reporter Ben Jacobs has suggested that both Chelsea and Liverpool are keeping tabs on Caicedo ahead of potentially launching bids for him.
Brighton always seem to have targets lined up whenever they lose a player and Maycon could be viewed as the Ecuadorian’s successor.
Liverpool desperately need a couple of new midfielders in 2023 and whilst Jude Bellingham is the top target, everybody will want him.
The Reds need to have alternatives in mind and Caicedo could be one of them.
We’ll learn towards Maycon being seen as Mwepu’s replacement rather than Caicedo, but Liverpool may be living of hope of a boost.
