Enock Mwepu has retired due to a heart condition but can at least claim to have fulfilled his dream of facing Liverpool at Anfield.
Mwepu has featured six times for Brighton this season; twice as a starter, four times as a substitute.
Early in September, Mwepu bagged an assist in a fine performance against Leicester, helping the Seagulls to a 5-2 win.
The Zambian hasn’t played a single minute since then though, leaving Brighton fans to wonder just where the 24-year-old has been of late.
Enock Mwepu has retired
Those questions have been answered today and it’s news that few will have been remotely prepared to receive.
Brighton have confirmed that Mwepu has retired from football due to the diagnosis of a hereditary heart condition.
Mwepu has been told to hang up his boots on medical advice and a promising career has sadly come to a very abrupt end.
This is desperately sad news for Mwepu and the wider footballing world with an incredibly talented player now having played his final game at just 24.

Enock Mwepu admitted Anfield dream
The sadness will of course take over for Mwepu, but he did actually achieve the dream he set himself as a kid playing in Zambia.
Mwepu told The Athletic in 2021 that he grew up supporting Liverpool and loved Steven Gerrard.
Mwepu even admitted that his dream throughout his life was to play at Anfield and he can at least retire knowing that he fulfilled that dream.
His first appearance at Anfield came in 2019, turning out for Red Bull Salzburg in a bonkers 4-3 Liverpool win; Erling Haaland just happened to score in that game.
Mwepu came back to Anfield with Brighton in a 2-2 draw almost a year ago, and he made his dream even more special by scoring for the Seagulls that day.
Mwepu may never have played for Liverpool but Reds fans will absolutely wish him all the best as he deals with this shock retirement.
