Brighton and Hove Albion’s highly-rated goalkeeper Christian Walton is poised to join Luton Town on loan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Walton is currently undergoing a medical at Luton ahead of signing a season-long loan deal at Kenilworth Road.

Luton have beaten off interest from a number of clubs, including Aberdeen, Oxford United, Bristol Rovers and Wycombe Wanderers to land Walton.

Luton boss Nathan Jones has been busy reshaping his squad this summer and he sees Walton as a key addition to his plans as the England Under-20 international is set to become his No.1 keeper.

Walton is highly regarded by Brighton boss Chris Hughton, but he feels the keeper would benefit from going out on loan next season to gain valuable first-team experience.

The 20-year-old joined Bury on loan at the start of last season, but saw his stay cut short by injury and was forced to return to Brighton.

The 19-year-old made six appearances during his loan stint at Bury before joining Plymouth Argyle on a two-month loan spell where he made four appearances for the Pilgrims.

Walton made his senior debut for the Seagulls in a League Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur two seasons ago going on to make three appearances in the Championship – keeping two clean sheets in his four outings.
