Brighton are interested in bringing Cole Palmer to the Amex Stadium this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Brighton are in negotiations with Manchester City over a deal to sign Cole Palmer. The Seagulls initially wanted to sign Palmer on a permanent basis, but Manchester City’s belief in the player’s future potential makes a loan switch more likely at this stage. Brighton also aren’t the only club to want him.

Roberto De Zerbi’s attacking contingent has already been strengthened this summer, with the arrival of Joao Pedro in a club-record deal. Bringing in Palmer would make Brighton even more potent in the final third, as the young attacking midfielder is a creative force and has an eye for goal.

With Pascal Gross and Adam Lallana both in the twilight of their careers, bringing in Palmer makes sense at this stage. He is ready to compete for a starting berth in the Premier League having triumphed in the under-21 European Championship with England this summer, and made 25 appearances across all competitions in Manchester City’s treble-winning season last time out.

Cole Palmer is ready to shine

England under-21 boss Lee Carsley has been full of praise for Palmer in the past, saying “we rate him highly…he’s a real talent,” as quoted by the Independent. Competition for places in Pep Guardiola’s side means that Palmer’s talent hasn’t had much of a chance to shine in the Premier League so far. A move to Brighton would change that.

Palmer would also surely thrive under De Zerbi, who would give him license to get forward into the box where he is a clinical finisher. Brighton also play a fluid, fast-paced game in attack which would suit Palmer’s strengths.
