Brighton & Hove Albion are set to take on Newcastle United on Sunday.

Brighton manager Chris Hughton looks on during a Pre Season Friendly between Brighton & Hove Albion and Atletico Madrid at Amex Stadium on August 6, 2017 in Brighton, England.

Chris Hughton has singled out Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles for praise on Brighton & Hove Albion’s official website, before his side’s match against the Magpies this weekend.

Brighton are set to face Newcastle on Sunday, and the in-form Lascelles is a player who Hughton’s side will have to keep an eye on.

Lascelles scored the winner for Newcastle in their last match against Stoke City, to take his total to two goals for the season.

And Hughton, who used to manage Newcastle, admits that the centre-back is a very talented player.

“They’re in good form at the moment with three [straight] wins, and it just goes to show you the margins,” he said.

“They have a very good centre-half in [Jamaal] Lascelles that scored two goals from set-plays, and that can change them margins.

“As a side and a way that they play, they’re reasonably similar to ourselves and perhaps that’s why they were close games last season. We were very close going right the way through the season.

“We’re at home and we have to try and capitalise on our home form. But we know that we’re up against a very good Newcastle side that are in good form.”

Lascelles’ place in Newcastle’s starting line-up appeared to be in doubt at the start of the season, following the arrival of Florian Lejeune.

However, the former Nottingham Forest man has fought his way back into contention with a series of impressive displays.

Newcastle head into their match with Brighton on the back of a strong run of form, which has seen them win their last three Premier League matches.

Benitez’s side are currently sat in the top four, and they will be looking to continue to build on the growing momentum around the club.
