Brighton and Hove Albion beat league leaders Huddersfield 1-0 to bring the Terriers’ unbeaten start to the Championship season to an end.

Chris Hughton’s side took the lead at the AMEX Stadium in the 80th minute after Anthony Knockaert hit a left footed shot in to the bottom right handed corner, after the assist by Jamie Murphy.

But the goal will be remembered for the goalkeeping error by Huddersfield’s Danny Ward, having let the ball slip through his grasp at the near post.

Speaking after the game to the BBC about Ward’s mistake, Huddersfield manager David Wagner said:

“I spoke to Danny and I told him there were no complaints from my side. Mistakes are part of this game.

“Unfortunately, if a goalkeeper makes a mistake, it’s a goal. But he is strong enough and he knows that everyone backs him – that he will be fresh on Saturday and will help us get a better result than we had today.”

The match was a fairly even contest throughout, with both sides having chances to win it, but ultimately it was the home side that came out on top, thanks to Knockaert’s goal.

Wagner’s side, who had enjoyed their best start to a league season in their 108-year history, had chances in the first half, with the best of them falling to Jack Payne, Harry Bunn and Rajiv van La Parra.

But in the second half, Brighton came more in to the game, and were unlucky not to have taken the lead earlier when chances fell to Tomer Hemed, who fired in to the side netting and Lewis Dunk, whose header went just wide.

But as Huddersfield looked to gain control of the game, Brighton made the breakthrough with Knockaert’s goal.
