Brighton Hove Albion beat Blackburn Rovers 3-2 at Ewood Park.

Brighton Hove Albion recorded their thirteenth win of the season to move top of the Championship.

Chris Hughton’s side took the lead in the 16th minute, when ex-Blackburn Rovers defender Shane Duffy headed home Oliver Norwood’s corner. The visitors doubled their advantage in the second half thanks to Dale Stephens’ well-controlled volley.

Sam Gallagher pulled one pack for Blackburn, but any hopes of a comeback for the hosts were dashed by Gordon Greer’s dismissal for a second bookable offence. The Seagulls took advantage of their extra man and scored a third through Glenn Murray. The striker responded first to Jason Steele parry from Lewis Dunk’s long-range strike, to neatly chip the Rovers keeper.

Their was still time for a stoppage time consolation goal for Rovers, as Gallagher grabbed his second goal of the game.

Brighton’s win at Ewood Park gives them a two point lead over 2nd place Newcastle united, who play Wigan Athletic tonight. Just as importantly, the three points give the Seagulls an eight point gap over third place Reading, after they lost 2-0 to Leeds United.

Chris Hughton’s side will be confident of further cementing their place in the automatic places with games against Birmingham City, Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City to come over the festive period.
