Newcastle United are making their move for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Dan Ashworth, leaving Seagulls fans very worried.
Ashworth to Newcastle a real possibility
Reports from The Sun over the weekend suggested that Ashworth had become a prime target for Newcastle.
That story has moved rapidly, with The Athletic reporting that Newcastle have now been given permission to talk to Ashworth.
Ashworth now appears to be the favourite to become Newcastle’ director of football following their big takeover.
Ashworth, 50, had spells at Peterborough United, Cambridge United and West Bromwich Albion before becoming The FA’s director of elite development.
The former Norwich defender is considered to have played a key role in England’s recent rise under Gareth Southgate.
In 2018, Ashworth left his role with The FA to join Brighton, who have now been upwardly mobile in recent years.

Brighton fans react to Ashworth rumours
Unsurprisingly, a number of Brighton fans seem pretty worried about this.
Ashworth’s fine work at the Amex Stadium means Brighton fans really don’t want to see him leave for Newcastle.
Many are taking to Twitter to suggest that Ashworth leaving would be ‘awful news’.
Others are cursing this current run of form for Brighton, believing Ashworth’s exit would compound on-field matters.
Some are praying that Ashworth doesn’t leave, feeling a move to Newcastle would be a ‘big, big loss’.
