Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has told Friday’s press conference – as per the club’s YouTube – that he is “happy” and “proud” to be linked with a move to Tottenham because it means they are doing something positive.
Indeed, Brighton are. They go to Leeds on Saturday, sitting in eighth place in the Premier League table. But it gets better for the Seagulls. Just a point behind Fulham, they have three games in hand. De Zerbi is working miracles.
They have played a game less than Carabao Cup finalists Newcastle too, who sit in sixth – and are only three points behind The Toon. Plenty of games to cram into an already-busy schedule, but Brighton have a chance of Europe.
Speaking ahead of his side’s clash against Leeds, De Zerbi was asked about reports linking him with Tottenham. Antonio Conte’s future at Spurs is now seemingly over – and the question is, is he sacked now, or in the summer.
The Telegraph have reported that ex-Sassuolo manager De Zerbi has admirers at Tottenham. He responded to a question about the Tottenham job in his latest press conference, stating such links make him happy and proud.
“We are happy because people are speaking about our quality of play. It makes us proud. We have a clear focus. For players, for me, it is the same. I have a long contract at Brighton, I am happy. I am enjoying working with my players.”

The 43-year-old is truly transforming Brighton at the moment. Boasting a contract until the summer of 2026, he is unlikely to be tempted by a move to Spurs right now or this summer – especially, if he gets Brighton into Europe.
Whether he does or not remains to be seen. Failure to do so may then tempt him with a move to Spurs, if the North Londoners can qualify for the Champions League. It remains to be seen if Spurs will stick with Conte until then.
