As the Seagulls play down the prospect of Solanke joining on loan, could Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard bring the Reds ace to Ibrox?

Brighton & Hove Albion have become the latest club to seemingly play down a move for Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke.

Seagulls manager Chris Hughton suggested that transfer activity at the Amex Stadium in January is likely to be minimal, with departures more probable instead of arrivals.

Crystal Palace had previously been tipped as front-runners to sign the out-of-favour Reds forward on loan but, according to the Liverpool Echo, his move to Selhurst Park fell through.

The report claimed that Solanke has been struggling with a muscle problem of late and the Eagles were understood to be concerned about his ability to make an immediate impact to their Premier League survival bid.

When asked by Sky Sports News about the likelihood of Brighton moving for the 21-year-old, Hughton replied: “At this moment I think we would be doing very minimal business if any at all.

“I think our recent recruitment, in particular the last couple of windows, holds us in good stead. At this moment I don’t think we need to improve the squad… (outgoing loans are) probably more of a possibility than someone coming in.”

The Sun recently reported that Glasgow Rangers were one of the teams that wanted to sign Solanke this month, but the Scottish Premiership title contenders were deemed as outsiders somewhat due to the Reds reportedly favouring a Premier League.

Judging by the latest snub from a club in the English top flight, does this mean Ibrox boss – and Liverpool legend – Steven Gerrard could now be in serious contention to recruit the striker from his old stomping ground?
