Brighton’s loan to Leeds could now be a big success.

Leeds United’s shock decision to sell Pontus Jansson has pushed Brighton loanee Ben White into the spotlight.
White signed on loan for Brighton last week, and he was seen as a squad player at centre-back.
White was behind Jansson and club captain Liam Cooper in the queue, and had no guaranteed path to game time.
Now as it stands, White could be set to profit from Leeds’ decision to sell Jansson to Brentford.
Brighton defender White is in position to become Liam Cooper’s preferred partner, ahead of cult hero but error prone Gaetano Berardi.

This is good news for Brighton, with Leeds having no confirmed option to buy at the end of his loan.
They are likely to get back a better player, and if Leeds or another team did want to buy him, his transfer value would have risen.
Brighton may have known all along that Leeds were looking to sell Jansson, prompting their decision to send White to Elland Road.
Leeds could sign a replacement for Jansson, but like White, he would be starting from scratch under Marcelo Bielsa, and the Brighton loanee would at least begin on an even footing, whereas if Jansson was there, he would have just been a back up to the Swede.
