Hwang Hee-chan has been speaking to The Telegraph about his time at Wolves so far, and reserved special praise for Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool.
What’s the story?
Well, the 41-cap South Korea international has been a sensation in the Premier League so far, but is yet to face Liverpool.
Hwang has scored four goals in seven Premier League appearances, and could’ve had a fifth against Everton last night, but for VAR.
Liverpool fans may remember the 25-year-old from their 4-3 Champions League win over RB Salzburg back in October 2019.
Hwang scored a fantastic goal at the Kop End, putting Van Dijk on his backside before firing beyond Adrian.
Speaking about the Dutchman and that moment, Hwang said: “After the game we talked to each other and had a smile about it. We had a handshake and from then there was a mutual respect for each other.
“He’s so very difficult to get past and I learned that from the games. I discovered how much of a brick wall he is!”
Clearly, the Wolves No.26 is a modest professional, who was quick to shower Van Dijk in praise regardless of the fact he outdid him at Anfield.
For most footballers, it would’ve been very easy to come across as arrogant.
Forget Wolves, Hwang would thrive at Liverpool
Hwang is only on a season-long loan at Wolves, although The Telegraph believe Bruno Lage can sign him for just £14m.
At that price, Liverpool should’ve got involved.
With four goals in seven Premier League games – all from his first four shots on target – Hwang looks well equipped to succeed in England.
With all due respect, he has looked far more dangerous than the likes of Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino have for Jürgen Klopp.
Coincidentally, Minamino also scored for RB Salzburg in that aforementioned Champions League clash.
In hindsight, perhaps the Reds moved to sign the wrong player.
