Things aren’t quite going to plan for Nottingham Forest so far this season, are they?

The Reds have slumped to back-to-back 3-2 defeats at home against newly-promoted sides, and despite being one of the highest-spending clubs in Europe this summer, a relegation battle now seems almost inevitable for the Tricky Trees.

Forest, of course, brought in a small army of new signings this summer, but there was also a number of departures this summer, including a rather high-profile one.

Indeed, Brice Samba left the City Ground this summer in rather unsavoury circumstances surrounding the lack of a payrise after being a hero in the Reds’ playoff run, and after Steve Cooper’s side slumped to another defeat, he sent what was either a very poorly-timed or a rather sassy tweet.

Samba sent a wordless tweet of a shrugging emoji after Forest’s defeat, but after coming in for a torrent of backlash from Forest fans, the message was promptly deleted.

Of course, Samba could’ve been tweeting this message innocuously. After all, it doesn’t outright mention the Forest result and it was quickly deleted – perhaps showing that he wasn’t necessarily alluding to his former team’s misfortunes.

However, given that Samba left Forest in acrimonious circumstances that included a number of tweets displaying his unhappiness with his contract situation, it isn’t ridiculous to assume that this tweet was a brazen dig at his former employers.

Samba’s replacement, Dean Henderson, hasn’t had the best of times over the past few weeks, conceding 12 goals in his last three games, and while it’s all hypothetical, it’s hard to imagine that Forest would’ve been worse off with Samba between the sticks.
